Ramayana and Mahabharata to be included in the social science curriculum

Our youth is our future, but nowadays we see every 2 out of 5 youth want to go abroad and settle down. This is because the youth lack patriotism. It is important to in build patriotism in our youth now because they are our future. It is generally observed that in teenagers, they build patriotism and love for the country, so the NCERT Panel feels including our legendary epics will change the way our youth think.

Two of India's biggest epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, have shaped Hindu philosophy and thought. The two epics are regarded as historical works, or "itihasa" in Sanskrit, and are thought to be partially based on actual historical events.

Further apart from this, the committee also proposed that the Preamble of the Constitutions be written on the walls of the classrooms. Our Preamble includes values of democracy and secularism. Keeping that in mind, this suggestion was proposed.

Earlier The NCERT also proposed that the students of primary and secondary should be taught under the name “Bharat†in textbooks and not "Indiaâ€.

Students are leaving India to pursue education in other countries and are also opting for citizenship after the completion of their education. Introducing and teaching our youth about our two legendary epics can change their perception of life.

It is anticipated that the upcoming academic session will see the release of the updated NCERT textbooks. The 19-member National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), which was alerted in July, will now evaluate the panel's recommendations before making a final decision.
