IIT Guwahati strengthens global collaborations with Canadian and Japanese universities.

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has taken a major step towards internationalisation by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with renowned universities like Canadian universities and Japanese universities. This global collaboration, formalised on March 3rd, 2024, promises to enrich the academic experience for students and faculty at IIT Guwahati.

The MoUs establish partnerships with Dalhousie University, a Canadian universities, and Gifu University, a Japanese universities. These agreements will facilitate faculty and student exchange programs, promote joint research initiatives, and encourage the sharing of academic resources for the next five years, with the potential for further extension.

A key highlight of the global collaboration is the establishment of a "Joint Doctoral Program" with Dalhousie University. This program will allow doctoral students to undertake research under the joint supervision of faculty from both institutions, leading to the award of a doctorate degree from both universities.

The MoU with Gifu University establishes an "International Joint PhD Programme," offering a collaborative doctoral program with faculty involvement from both Canadian universities and Japanese universities. The specific research areas haven't been announced yet, but the recent "Japan-NER Bioeconomic Technology Cooperation Symposium 2024" held at IIT Guwahati suggests a potential focus on bio-economic technologies, leveraging the expertise of both institutions.

Boosting Academic Excellence: Professor Rajeev Ahuja, Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating its aim to support students' academic and personal growth. This initiative is expected to provide students with diverse learning experiences and international exposure, fostering a more vibrant and globalised academic environment at IIT Guwahati.

The global collaboration with Dalhousie University and Gifu University marks a significant step forward for IIT Guwahati.
