Learning gets local! CBSE's New Curriculum for Younger Students Gets a Refresh

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is set to introduce a new curriculum for Classes 3 and 6 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), aiming to foster well-rounded development in students. This revamped syllabus will be implemented in the upcoming academic session of 2024–25.

The new curriculum at CBSE prioritises a holistic approach to education, going beyond traditional subjects like mathematics, science, and language. It will incorporate areas like arts, physical education, and skill development, ensuring a more diverse and engaging learning experience for students.

Recognizing the importance of catering to regional needs and contexts, the NCERT is encouraging schools to adapt their schedules to accommodate the revised syllabus. This flexibility will allow schools to integrate local elements and activities, enriching the learning process for students.

"This revamped new curriculum signifies a shift towards a more holistic approach to education," said a spokesperson for the NCERT. "By incorporating diverse subjects and encouraging schools to adapt to local needs, we aim to provide a richer learning environment that fosters well-rounded development in our young learners."

This change aligns with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023 and the National Education Policy 2020, both of which emphasise the importance of a holistic learning experience for students.

The NCERT is also developing activity books and textbooks aligned with the new syllabus, further supporting teachers in implementing these exciting changes in the classroom.
