Face Off! AI Recognition, Flying Squads Patrol Exam Halls Across India

India's exam season is in full swing, and the National Testing Agency (NTA) is taking a high-tech approach to ensure fairness in crucial exams like JEE Main. To combat cheating, the NTA has implemented a two-pronged strategy: AI facial recognition technology called "iFace" and special flying squads for on-ground monitoring.

Examinees' identities are confirmed by iFace through a cross-reference between the images on their admit cards and the actual images taken at the testing locations. This cutting-edge AI recognition technology attempts to discourage impersonation and unfair tactics, in conjunction with mandated frisking and electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) protocols.

Concurrent state-level board exams are being administered at the same time as the NTA's initiatives. The strain and excitement among students globally increased today when Karnataka announced the results of its Class 12 board exams.

"These stringent measures are implemented to ensure a level playing field and uphold the integrity of the exams," said an NTA spokesperson. Initial reports indicate the effectiveness of the strategy, with one case of impersonation and nine instances of unfair means detected on the first day of JEE Main's second session.

Exam season is approaching, and students taking various entrance and board tests may anticipate increased scrutiny and attention to upholding the integrity of the testing procedure.
