New Guidelines for Private Coaching Centres in India.

Our youth is our future, and coaching centres misleading promises are causing the loss of our precious lives. Today, we often come across news that breaks our hearts because it's usually about a student who commits suicide or there is a fire caught in the coaching centre. It was important for the government to intervene and issue some guidelines for the private coaching centres.

The new guidelines state that the coaching centres cannot take students who are under the age of 16. Only authorised coaching centres can run, for which the coaching centres should be registered. Those who are not registered should apply for registration within 3 months from the date of implementation of the guidelines. The coaching centres should not add stress to the student’s life and complete the coaching within the allotted time in the brochure. The fees charged should be reasonable and also refundable if the student decides to discontinue coaching after paying for the entire year.

The coaching centre shall have a website with updated details of the qualifications of tutors, courses/curriculum, duration of completion, hostel facilities (if any), the fees being charged, the easy exit policy, the fee refund policy, the number of students undertaking coaching from the centre, and the number of students who finally succeeded in getting admission to higher education institutions, etc. The trainers should hold the qualifications of a graduate. If any of the guidelines are not followed, it can lead to a fine, penalty, or even revocation of registration.

The government has also tried to introduce various ways for students to avoid going to the coaching centres. In order to help the students practice well for the NEET (UG) and JEE (Main) entrance examinations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has launched a mobile app, ‘National Test Abhyas' to facilitate candidates’ access to high-quality mock tests online free of charge.
