What is Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) ?

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT Degree) is an allied health profession concerned with the study of subjects and therapies for evaluation and intervention in order to keep persons with any disability or sickness engaged in meaningful activities. Occupational therapists frequently deal with persons who have mental health issues, illnesses, injuries, or impairments to provide rehabilitative help. The BOT degree is a 4.5-year undergraduate curriculum that includes 4 years of college education and 6 months of field internship experience. Basic medical disciplines studied by BOT students include Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, General Medicine and Surgery, Clinical Psychology, and Psychiatry.

Occupational therapists' primary focus is on improving the lives, conditions, and rehabilitation of handicapped and limited people through a variety of treatments such as counselling sessions, exercises, functional training, assistive devices and equipment, ergonomic training, and environmental restructuring and adaptation.

Eligibility for a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

Students seeking admission to BOT degree programmes in occupational therapy must meet certain minimal qualifying requirements. Although the prerequisites vary per college, the following are some general requirements for a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT).
  • Candidates must have completed a class 12 or equivalent test in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Institutes may have minimum age requirements, however there is normally no minimum age requirement for entrance to a BOT course.
  • Certain universities also have minimum percentage of marks in class 12 requirements ranging from 50% to 60% in order to pursue a BOT degree.

Admissions to the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy programme

The institute's entrance examination is used to determine admission to the BOT programme. There is no common entrance examination for institute admission; instead, students must apply to the selected institute and take the test. Some institutes also accept class 12 marks for admission to Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree programmes.
