What is M.S General Surgery?

General surgery is a medical specialty that focuses on procedures performed mostly on the abdominal regions of the human body. This specialty is offered in India as part of the master of general surgery programme (MS in General Surgery). An MS general surgery is a three-year postgraduate degree that individuals interested in becoming surgeons can pursue. A student must have completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) with at least one year of internship experience in order to pursue MS in general surgery. Entrance tests such as A.I.I.M.S. and NEET are used to determine admission to the programme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students applying for the M.S. in General Surgery must have completed their 10+2 level in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics from a recognised Indian school.
  • Students must have an M.B.B.S degree from a Medical Council of India-accredited college.
  • Students must have at least one year of internship experience.
  • Students must score at least 50% on postgraduate entrance tests administered by institutes and organisations.
