What is M.CH?

Medical students seeking admission to post-doctoral programmes must first understand the Magister Chirurgiae (M.Ch) degree. Candidates should be aware that Magister Chirugiae is a Latin title that means Master of Chirurgiae (General Surgery). Master of Chirurgiae is a postgraduate degree study that leads to the designation of Surgeon upon completion. According to the Medical Council of India (MCI), 1499 seats are available for the degree across the country. Popular MCh specialisations include Neuro Surgery, Cardio-Thoracic Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Urology.

M.CH Eligibility

Candidates must fulfil the Master of Chirurgiae qualifying criteria in order to be admitted to MCh programmes via NEET-SS. These are described in detail below:
  • Degree - Candidates must have an MS degree or provisional pass certificate (or comparable degree) by the deadline. They are also likely to have the item by the due date.
  • Registration - Candidates must also be registered with the Medical Council of India (MCI)/State Medical Council (SMC). Medical graduates must also provide verification of their qualifications at the examination centre on the day of the exam.
  • Result - Candidates must get their qualifying examination results by the cutoff date, otherwise their candidature will be revoked.

M.CH Admissions

Medicos are aware that admission to practically all MCh programmes in the nation would be provided based on NEET-SS scores. Admission to AIIMS and JIPMER institutes is not included because they have their own tests. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) administers the NEET-SS entrance test in a single computer-based shift. Candidates will be assigned seats based on their NEET-SS merit rank, the course they choose, and the availability of seats. Medical graduates will be required to present a number of documents at their NEET-SS test centre. These are their names:
  • SMC/MCI Registration Photocopy, Permanent or Provisional
  • Admit card with picture put in proper location
  • PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Passport, or Aadhaar Card with a valid and original photo ID
Candidates who meet the admission qualifying requirements can fill up the NEET-SS application form. They must also keep in mind that admittance to the super-specialty school that they choose will be based on their past qualifications. This is sometimes referred to as a feeder wide speciality qualification. Every applicant may select a maximum of two super specialty courses for which they are qualified based on their wide speciality qualification.
