In 1960, the late Shri Daulat Ram Gupta, an educationist, founded the prestigious Daulat Ram College in Delhi. It is a prestigious women's college that educates women in the liberal arts. The college, a sizable constituent college of the University of Delhi, was first known as "Pramila College" and was located at 22, Tilak Marg. It had two non-teaching staff members and thirteen teaching staff members, as well as roughly 350 students. The college changed its name to Daulat Ram College and moved to its current location on the campus of North Delhi University in 1964. Since then, the organisation has developed into a fully functional extended college of the University of Delhi. The college has developed a strong sense of self and into an elite women's institution with its own unique culture and traditions.

It provides instruction leading to bachelor's degrees in the arts, sciences, and commerce, as well as master's degrees in the arts. The scientific block and well-equipped science laboratories were built after the introduction of science courses in 1968. To meet the expanding demands of the students, the college building, which was built in the 1960s, was further expanded.

There was also a brand-new block of tutorial rooms, a contemporary seminar room, new classrooms, and science labs for physics, NHE, and biochemistry. A computer lab with internet access that is accessible to all pupils was later added. The college currently offers elective foreign language courses. Currently, there are 19 departments, over 4200 students are enrolled in them, approximately 180 teachers, and 75 non-teaching employees. The college maintains top rankings in both academics and sports and boasts a well-equipped computerised library, a gymnastics, table tennis, and athletics facilities. A recently constructed Conference Hall with a 200 student capacity is nicely furnished. The college is a leader in academics as well as extracurricular pursuits including theatre, music, and sports.

The Psychology Department operates a Counseling Center to assist students in adjusting to the new college environment as well as numerous other current difficulties and problems. The college's highly skilled and experienced faculty also accepts numerous major research projects from institutions like DRDO, ICSSR, UGC, University of Delhi, etc., where the students also get the chance to participate.
