Anna University was established on 4 th September 1978 as a unitary type of University. This University was named after the Late Dr.C.N.Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Applied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.
The University was formed by bringing together and integrating four well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras (now Chennai) namely, the College of Engineering (CEG) (Established in 1794) Alagappa College of Technology (ACT) (Established in 1944) Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) (Established in 1949) School of Architecture & Planning (SAP) (Established in 1957) The University is situated in the southern part of the city of Chennai and it is 3 kms. from the nearest Railway Station (Guindy) and 10 kms. from Chennai Airport. The University's Main Campus extends over 189 acres abutting the Adyar River on the north and Raj Bhavan on the south.
The Madras Institute of Technology at Chrompet constitutes the second campus of the University which extends over 52 acres. A third campus extending over 5 acres is located at Taramani, Chennai. These campuses have a variety of buildings serving the various needs of the University community. In 2001, Anna University was converted to an affiliating type University by bringing together all the Engineering colleges in the State of Tamil Nadu and was again reconverted to the unitary type in 2010. In 2012, Anna University was again converted to an affiliating type of University by bringing together all the Engineering Colleges in the State of Tamil Nadu under one umbrella to ensure uniform quality in engineering education.
In addition to the above, 4 University Department Campuses (CEG/MIT/ACT/SAP Campuses), presently, Anna University has 13 Constituent Colleges, 3 Regional Campuses at Tirunelveli, Madurai, and Coimbatore, and 593 Affiliated Colleges (Government, Government Aided and Self-Financing Colleges).

Anna University offers 29 UG and 90 PG Programmes in various disciplines in the University Departments and 41 UG and 57 PG programmes in Affiliated Institutions. Anna University Admission 2023 (TANCET) tentative exam schedule has been released. It starts in June 2023. The application is online. - The application form for UG courses will release in the third week of June 2023.
- Candidates can submit the application form for Anna University via online mode.
- For PG courses, the application form will release in the fourth week of December 2022.

How to Apply for Anna University 2023
Anna University 2023 Eligibility Criteria
- Qualification: Candidate must pass 12th class or equivalent exam from any recognized board.
- Nationality: To be eligible for admission candidate must be an Indian citizen/ NRI/ CIWGC or Foreign national.
- Marks: The minimum marks candidate must score at least 45% (40% for SC/ ST candidates).
- Appearing: Those candidates who are appearing in the qualifying exam are also eligible to apply.
- Nationality: Candidates do not need to show Nativity Certificate if they have passed 8thto 10th class from Tamil Nadu state. Candidates who have passed 8th to 12th class or equivalent exams outside Tamil Nadu state then have to show an Original Nativity Certificate in electronic form/ digitally signed e-certificate.
- Qualification: Candidate must pass 11th and 12th or its equivalent from any recognized board.
- Subjects: Candidate must have passed Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects in 12th.
- Qualifying Marks: The minimum marks secured in the qualifying exam should be at least 45% marks for general (40% for SC/ ST/ SCA).
- Qualification: Candidates must have Bachelors’ degree in any discipline from a recognized university/ institute.
- Marks: In the qualifying exam, the candidate must secure at least 50% marks to be eligible.
- Appearing: Candidates appearing in the final year of the exam can also apply for the exam.

ANNA University Scholarship
- MBC/ BC Scholarships: This scholarship is awarded to backward-category students who are studying in regular courses. The annual income of the parents should not exceed 2 lakhs.
- SC/ST Scholarship: To be eligible for this, the annual income of the parents should not exceed 2.5 Lakhs. A certificate from Tahsildar is essential as proof of the category.
- Merit-cum-means Minority Scholarship: The students belonging to Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and Sikkim can apply for this. The annual income of their income must not exceed 2.5 Lakhs.
- Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship: This scholarship is for students studying in colleges and universities. To be eligible, a student must score more than 80% marks in HSC exams. They must also maintain 75% attendance during 1st year.
- TN Educational Trust Scholarship: This is available for both UG as well as PG students. The annual income of parents should not exceed 2 lakhs.
